GELIUS TRIO - REVIEWS

La Jornada, Mexico, 30.11.2003
The following lines will be entirely devoted to describing the pleasant experience of listening to the Gelius Trio: From the moment the first notes of the trio by Claude Debussy reached my ears, I knew that this evening would be an unforgettable experience. Never before had I taken so much delight from such warm sounds coming from these two stringed instruments. As a matter of fact, each instrument seemed like two playing in unison. The intensity of each musician’s stroke and the mutual understanding between the two musicians was astounding. Fantastic musicians and charming individuals, the members of the Gelius Trio have won a place in our hearts thanks to their splendid art. (Ismael Álvarez León)

The musicians of the Gelius Trio gave a superb performance in every respect. And yet their natural technical skills never diminished musical expression nor became an end unto itself. In this trio, the three virtuosos, who normally follow their own course, form a new integrated and convincing whole.
Each crescendo and decrescendo and every change in tempo flowed together, so that all of the pieces merged in awe-inspiring homogeneity. (Günther Greb)

The Gelius Trio was amazing. They managed to recapture the essence of the composition style and bring the original searching drive to our times. Their interpretation of the music was so riveting that it felt as if we were attending the world premiere of the composition.
Micaela Gelius changed in a superior way from the virtuoso solo parts to the sensitive accompaniment. The performance of violinist Sreten Krstic and the cellist Michel Hell were full of emotion. In some parts, they even indulged in spontaneous and exhilarating interactions without ever allowing themselves to depart from the original ensemble.
It is the mark of great musicians when historical music is made audible and above all understandable to our ears. In the Gelius Trio, three masters of this art have met. (Klaus Scheuer)

And the musicians remained faithful to the piece (Schubert, trio in B major), never trying to impose a radical interpretation. Fortunately so, since it was the only way to bring out the full charm of the composition. Otherwise, the andante of breathtaking beauty could have never flown like it did between a warm piano temper, a full-bodied Cello and a dreamlike singing violin. (Reinhard Palmer)

Süddeutsche Zeitung, 17.01.2002
The musicians allowed soft melodies to unfold beautifully with a good sense of proportions. They used precise staccato to create accentuated interruptions and brought a tender musical mellifluousness to the andante. They remained very expressive right to the final chord, but there were no false pathos or exaggerated rubati. (Clara Schumann, Trio) (Torsten Brandt)

From the very first movement, Micaela Gelius delighted the audience with her feather-light piano play. The measured serenity of the andante was followed by a tenderly transported adagio. The Gelius Trio trickled this movement like balm over the audience without becoming mawkish. The final movement turned into a brilliant display of musical exuberance and the ability to sense the harmony of expression. (J. Haydn, Trio G major) (Andreas Bretting)
